A for artificial lawn

Today is Friday the 13th which some people consider an unlucky day. Not me. And all because of an invention dating back to 1965: artificial turf. James from Jardin Landscapes and his two colleagues worked hard in the garden all day to fit artificial grass and it looks great. Peter and I took the decision to have it installed a few weeks ago when we compared costs and maintenance of artificial lawn with decking and bark chippings which we had considered for our terrace and the play area respectively. It took us a while to take the leap as I much prefer natural materials: after all, I do want my children to grow up learning what it feels like to run barefoot on grass. However, because we still have a fair size of real lawn that is mainly composed of clover and buttercups right now, we agreed the artificial turf would be a great and clean base for the children’s play area and the terrace.

Maintenance should be fairly simple as water gets drained away through the porous material. Any leaves or dirt can be brushed off with a broom and should any animals (Hello Mr Fox) decide to deposit something on the lawn we can disinfect it with a light solution of disinfectant. Artificial turf tends to have a fairly long lifespan and comes with a 10 year guarantee – and we now have it featured in our garden.

Last week James delivered two big rolls of artificial turf that came all the way from China and luckily we had a couple of almost rain free days (except for the evenings) this week so his team managed to fit the turf in two days.

The new lawn is good enough for a fairy!

I am really pleased with the result and the children enjoy being able to run around and make their garden their own again – in the last few weeks the ground was so muddy because of the rainfall we had this summer so far that playing outside was not that much fun. From today on our garden will be a great big playground again!
